COVID-19: Positioned to Support and Equipped to Act
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a large number of our Service Members are facing higher unemployment, limited access to medical care and personal necessities, and increased social isolation. These challenges are threatening the mental and physical health of our Veterans, especially those with pre-existing conditions.
Semper Fi & America’s Fund has boots on the ground, taking action, ensuring our Service Members and Families know they are not alone. With over 16 years of experience as a virtual nonprofit, we are well-prepared to meet the challenges we face today. The Fund is focusing first on our catastrophic cases, those with illness, and our Vietnam Veterans. Our current priorities are to provide immediate support through:
- Financial assistance for lost wages and basic living expenses
- Transportation costs for family members traveling to care for those who may not be able to assist themselves
- Meals and provisions mailed directly to our Families
- Gas cards and ride service gift cards to help with travel to hospitals and clinics
- Gift cards to online retailers for grocery and medical items to limit risk of exposure
- Lodging when needed for Families during hospital stays or relocation
- Educational activities and materials to assist Service Members and caregivers who are now homeschooling and caring for young children due to school closures

Our state is up to 63 cases but today when the news came out that there is one in our city…it was very scary. Because of the risks with so many people in and out of our home each week, I have canceled all but one aide that helps to care for my husband.
