3rd Annual Wounded Warrior Golf Tournament

Oct 7, 2010

Sold out but donations are welcome!

Weems, VA – The Tartan Golf Club and The Adams American Legion Post 86 in Kilmarnock are holding the third Wounded Warrior Golf Tournament at the Tartan Golf Club in Weems, Virginia on 7 October 2010.

The format for the tournament puts one Wounded Warrior/ OEF-OIF veteran with three local golfers. The Northern Neck of Virginia is home to a very patriotic community, and the locals eagerly look forward to the chance to play with a veteran. The Tournament tries to be as “Purple” as possible with active duty and medically separated and retired veterans coming from all services. The first two tournaments raised almost $20,000 for donation to charities supporting our Wounded Warriors.

The success of the tournament was echoed in the comment from Gy Sgt Mike Barrett, one of the participants in WWGT I who wrote:

“Thanks again for everything!! We had a great time and it felt really good to see that folks out there really care about us and what we are doing for our country. I especially enjoyed meeting all of the former service members. It was their efforts, blood and sweat that paved the way to allow me to live and serve my country as I do. I will never forget the sacrifices of those that came before me and I will do everything within my power to make you all proud! Semper Fi.”

The view from the local golfers was that the format was especially rewarding.. Herb Aman, President of the Tartan Golf Course, summed up the feeling of the local community when he offered “The group of “warriors” was impressive and gave us all an eye opening opportunity to see the implications of the war we are still dealing with, and will be dealing with for a long time afterward. We fail to take all the misery trail into consideration and this is a wake-up call.”

Tom Parrish, Chairman of l WWGT said that this years tournament was sold out even before it was officially announced. He says that the Post is, however, accepting donations and looking for Wounded Warriors to participate.
