Team Semper Fi Athletes Aid Recovery Through Wakesurfing and Wakeboarding
Who: Twenty service members from the Semper Fi Fund’s Team Semper Fi Program learn and enhance their wakesurfing and wakeboarding skills on scenic Lake Harding, Georgia.
WHAT: The second annual wakesurf and wakeboard camp with Wake for Warriors on Lake Harding with six boats donated by Ski Nautique. Service members will spend three days receiving instruction from staff and local volunteers who help provide skills for recovery and a new or increased challenge on the water. These incredible, inspiring athletes will build more than just skills at this unforgettable event — they’ll also leave with camaraderie, confidence and life-long bonds with their fellow teammates.
“The ocean is said to help in healing wounds, both externally and emotionally. The unexplainable wonders of riding a wave and spending a day at the beach can make everything seem a bit easier — there is just something very soothing about being in the ocean,” says TSF Assistant Director Sam Tickle.

WHY: “Recovery Through Sport” has proven to be an ideal outlet for injured service members to hone both physical agility and mental focus, skills that are critical to navigating their recovery. Learning and practicing alongside fellow wounded service members, they can also trade stories, share strategies for coping with their injuries, and forge lasting friendships.
