W.E. Winters Amphibious Warrior Mud Run
April 6, 2013
Auburn, AL – On October 23rd 1983, a truck slammed into The Marine Barracks in Beirut, Lebanon. From this days tragedy we lost 220 Marines, 18 Sailors, and 3 U.S. Army soldiers. Many others were also wounded. Being that these men were Marines, it hits home to the Marine Platoon here at Auburn University, But Maj. W.E. Winter was more than a Marine, he was an Auburn Graduate. So that hits home to us all. Although he is not the only Marine to ever have given his life from our institution, we honor his dedication and steadfastness to duty along with all of our wounded veterans that currently serve, or have served, to keep our freedoms. This spring we would like to personally invite you to the 3rd Annual W.E Winter Amphibious Warrior Mud Run. If you have run with us before, let me be the first to tell you that this is an entirely new event, with a different location to allow for larger than life obstacles, mud pits large enough to sink a 747, and a little bit of space to let your Southern pride show! With all that is going on you can also be assured that every penny that we raise will be donated to the Semper Fi Fund as well as the Semper Fi Society to assist those who have given so much. So bring out the family for a day running, mud-boggin’, and some great music. There will be plenty of events to keep the interest of everyone in attendance!
