Injured & Recovering Semper Fi Fund Veterans Catch Waves at Three-Day Surf Camp
Team Semper Fi Joins Waves of Impact to learn new skills and valuable lessons on and off the beach
Who: Twenty-Five (10 from local southern California) service members from the Semper Fi Fund’s Team Semper Fi Program, will participate in an expert level instructional camp for all ability levels to be challenged by the waves at the World Famous Churches surf spot.
WHAT: Semper Fi Fund’s athletes will participate in the second-annual surf camp led by expert instructions and volunteers from Waves of Impact. Participants of all ability levels will be receiving instructions on surfing and stand up paddle boarding at the beautiful and sandy San Onofre Beach. Service members will have the opportunity to learn in a positive, encouraging, and safe environment with a one-to-one ratio of staff and volunteers to service members.

WHERE: San Onofre Beach (Camp Pendleton side), CA
WHY: “Recovery Through Sport” is an ideal outlet for injured service members to hone both physical agility and mental focus, skills that are critical to navigating their recovery.
“The ocean is said to help in healing wounds, both externally and emotionally. The unexplainable wonders of riding a wave and spending a day at the beach can make everything seem a bit easier — there is just something very soothing about being in the ocean,” says TSF Assistant Director, Sam Tickle.
