Semper Fi Fund hosts 2013 Purple Heart Ornament Packing Party

UPDATE – November 24 @ 10:45AM: Hundreds showed up to help us mail ornaments to our injured Marines. A story is forthcoming but in the meantime, check out the photos from this heartwarming event!

DALE CITY, Va. – For the fifth year-in-a-row the Semper Fi Fund will be sending out more than 10,700 holiday ornaments to Marines who have been wounded since the attacks of 9-11 and are Purple Heart recipients. To help with packing and shipping the ornaments, the Semper Fi Fund will be hosting its annual “Purple Heart Ornament Packing Party” at the VFW Post 1503 in Dale City.

The ornaments contain a rendering of the Purple Heart medal on the front and the Semper Fi Fund’s logo on the back, along with our mission statement of “Serving Those Who Preserve our Freedom.”

Dozens of volunteers will spend the day preparing and packaging the ornaments for shipment to ensure they are received in time for the holidays. The Semper Fi Fund’s founder, Karen Guenther, will be attending along with several other special guests. Media availability is available on the day of the event, or coverage prior to the event (to encourage volunteers to participate) would be greatly appreciated.

The event begins at 9 a.m. Sunday and concludes when all of the ornaments are packed.
