About Kevin Honaker, USMC

In September 2011, Lance Corporal Kevin Honaker, a native of Sparta TN, was serving in Afghanistan as a Combat Engineer. His ongoing mission was to search for and disable improvised explosive devices (IEDs), protecting his fellow Marines. On the September 13th, an IED exploded beneath Kevin severely damaging both his legs, forcing doctors to amputate one above the knee and the other below.

After initial care in Germany, Kevin was transported to Walter Reed Hospital in Bethesda, MD. His 8 month rehabilitation included ten surgeries and fitting of prosthetic legs.

Kevin returned to Sparta in 2012 and is attending Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville, majoring in Natural Resources Management. He hopes to continue his education after graduation at Auburn University. In his spare time, Kevin enjoys golf and has been awarded a lifetime membership by Sparta Country Club. He also enjoys fishing, hunting, and driving his pickup.

Kevin and his family were greatly helped by the Semper Fi Fund during his recovery and rehabilitation. It was his request that Semper Fi Fund and it’s associated America’s Fund benefit from this event.
