Recovering Semper Fi Fund Vets Return to Common Ground Golf Course to Learn New Skills and Build Bonds September 12–14, 2017
Team Semper Fi Athletes Challenge Themselves with Recovery Through Golf
Who: Sixteen service members from the Semper Fi Fund’s Team Semper Fi Program take on challenges in their recoveries to learn the game of golf at the gentle, but unforgiving slopes, rolling hills and sand bunkers at Common Ground Golf Course.
Golf is a sport that can be played by all ability levels for a lifetime. It is the ultimate challenge both mentally and physically and serves the service members well on their road to recovery by sharpening their minds and their focus, as well as tuning up their bodies. The degree of difficulty of this game requires a lot of focus, determination, and ability to adapt: all qualities of our Team Semper Fi says TSF Senior Manager, Casey Fisher.
WHAT: The second annual beginner golf clinic hosted at Common Ground Golf Course with coaching instruction from local, advanced-level golf professionals. Service members will receive eight hours of classroom-style instruction, practice on various courses, followed by mini competitions on the course over three days. These incredible, inspiring athletes will build more than just skills at this unforgettable event — they’ll also leave with camaraderie, confidence and life-long bonds with their fellow teammates.

WHY: “Recovery Through Sport” has proven to be an ideal outlet for injured service members to hone both physical agility and mental focus, skills that are critical to navigating their recovery. Learning and practicing alongside fellow wounded service members, they can also trade stories, share strategies for coping with their injuries, and forge lasting friendships.
