Double Rafter Cattle Drive VI

Jul 14, 2018 - Jul 21, 2018

This is our sixth clinic at the historic Double Rafter Cattle Ranch near Sheridan, WY. This clinic is for JMHP riders to put all the skills they have learned in previous clinics into practical application on a working ranch in the magnificent Bighorn Mountains, WY. Folks, it just doesn’t get any better or more cowboy than this! We’ll start right off driving the herd of 500 cattle through high mountain parks and canyons, across pristine rivers, and through tall aspen and pine forests to the herd’s new pasture some 40 miles from where we started. You’ll experience life much the same as the Wyoming cowboys did 150 years ago far from any signs of modern civilization of conveniences. You and your horse will work as a team and along with your fellow JMHP riders keep the wily bovines in line and moving in the right direction. We can expect to spend 10-12 hours a day in the saddle; eat around the fire; take baths in mountain snow-fed rivers; and sleep soundly each night under a blanket of stars, with sore muscles from a long day’s ride, and a satisfied smile on our faces knowing we measured up with the cowboys of days long ago. This is an opportunity of a lifetime to experience a true cattle drive and one not to be missed!

Open to: 16 Semper Fi Fund members that have participated in at least one prior JMHP clinic. Riders can expect to spend 8-12 hours in the saddle from dawn to nightfall; live without cell phones, electricity, or any modern conveniences; and operate as a part of a team of riders accomplishing a mission for the rancher.   While the riding is mostly at a walk, it’s a lot of time in the saddle for 6 straight days. But take heart, as we have taken amputees and paralyzed riders in years past that all thrived completing the entire cattle drive.
