Community Athlete: Edward Wells at Lady Bird Hike and Bike Trail

Feb 23, 2013

Lady Bird Hike and Bike Trail – Friends and family have asked, “what do you want to do for your 40th birthday?” I decided while jogging and thinking about this question. I hope that everyone participates with me. I want two things wrapped up into one event. First, a gesture of defiance to the BIG 40. Second, a gesture of gratitude. On February 23rd, I will be at Lady Bird Lake Hike and Bike Trail here in Austin and I’m going to run. I’m going to run until I can’t run anymore. I’m going to do it for me and I’m going to do it for those that have made my 40 years possible, our veterans. For those that have sacrified their bodies, their minds and their families to ensure my family is safe. For my dad, my wife’s grandfather and friends that served.

I want everyone out there to decide how much you want to give for every mile I run. The most I have run at one time in the last two years is 8 miles and I have not trained for this other than jogging 15 to 20 miles a week. Let’s see how these old knees hold up!

Friends and family should come down to the trail and run with me. Those that don’t want to run can camp out on the Zilker lawn and wave on each lap. You’ll find us in Zilker at Lou Neff Point. We will make a little bit of difference for a few wounded veterans. Please join me, come on, its my 40th birthday! – Edward Wells
