Community Athlete: Chris Sukow at Texas Water Safari

Jun 8, 2013

San Marcos, TX – Chris Sukow is participating in the Texas Water Safari, which is a 260-mile paddle race from the Texas Hill Country to the Gulf Coast.

Run continuously since 1963, the course follows the San Marcos and Guadalupe Rivers from the city of San Marcos to the coastal fishing town of Seadrift. Paddlers must complete the race in 100 hours. While the required exhausting pace and blistering heat are reason enough to bow out, it is the ancillary hurdles that often eliminate racers long before the finish line: dam portages, water moccasins, logjams, mosquitoes, dysentery, alligators, sleep deprivation, and equipment failures.

I will be paddling in the Standard Division of the race with longtime friend, Brandon Heutmaker, who is from just outside Denver, Colorado. I am supporting the Semper Fi fund as I had the privilege and fortune of being raised in a military family. Dad was a career Marine helicopter pilot and mom was a "Bad Ass" Marine wife!!

With this family background, Chris has decided to fundraise for his event. To donate to his event, please visit his campaign page!
