Colorado Ranch Roundup
Sep 1, 2018
We are super excited about this inaugural clinic on the Peterson’s magnificent Troublesome Valley Ranch (TVR) near Kremmling, CO. Every Spring the TVR drives its cattle into the Medicine Bow National Forest for summer grazing in the high (8000’) mountain meadows that wind throughout this portion of the Rocky Mountains. In the Fall, the TVR’s cowboys ride the high country gathering the cattle and then drive the herd out of the mountains to the ranch’s lower-elevation hay meadows where the cattle are held until Spring. This year, JMHP riders will assist the TVR in its Fall gather helping the rancher bring his cattle out of the mountains and back to the ranch. That’s right, our riders will scour the high country riding along the forested ridges, across pristine meadows, and through babbling brooks in search of the wily bovines. Once we find the small bunches of cattle, we’ll drive them to a central mountain holding area until all the cattle are found. Once we have the entire herd gathered, we’ll drive it about 10 miles down the valley to the ranch.
Open to: 6-8 JMHP riders that have participated in at least one clinic or have riding experience. Due to the altitude and season that we’ll be riding in the high Rocky Mountains, participants must have positive attitudes, be in hardy physical condition, and be team players.
