2nd Annual Marvin Atwood Memorial Ride

Aug 1, 2010 - Aug 31, 2010

Ashville, NC – Starting in August, Todd Atwood will once again maintain his commitment to the Semper Fi Fund family with his memorial ride from Blowing Rock, NC, to Ashville, NC.

Beginning as a solo ride last year, Todd is happy to report that this 100+ mile ride has grown to include 10 dedicated riders (3 riders are Marines!) and 4 dedicated volunteers!! The spirit of the ride is spreading and the Semper Fi Fund family is growing!

This ride is dedicated to Todd’s Aunt Pam and late Uncle Marvin, who are the inspiration for this ride because of the commitment, dedication and contributions they made to the SEMPER FI FUND during their years together as Ultra Distance Bike Racers and Triathletes.

Sadly, in December of 2008, Marvin died unexpectedly, just six months after finishing 1ST in his last RACE ACROSS THE WEST, a 1000-mile race that is the first of three leagues in the Race Across America.

However, Marvin’s INSPIRATION LIVES. Riding together for thousands of miles, Marvin & Pam inspired extraordinary achievement, commitment, teamwork, dedication and contribution. Perhaps that is why they supported the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund for many of their events … because of these same inspirational aspects that the men and women of the Marines give to America every day.

Through Marvin’s multiple records for Ultra Distance bicycling, he challenged others to push their bodies and to make “each pedal on every journey have a cause.” Todd hopes to carry on his Aunt and Uncle’s unselfishness and has pledged to carry their torch of their support for the fund as his ongoing cause. Todd has also pledged to be a long-time supporter of the fund, which helps provide to all of our injured servicemen and women.
