Why We Support The Fund:
Every hero story begins long before the moment anyone notices. It begins with service, sacrifice, and the quiet decision to put others before yourself.
At A Better Home Inspection, that story is personal to us. Our founder, Ray Forster, served in the military, and several members of our team are veterans as well. Because of that, respect for the men and women who serve our country isn’t just something we talk about — it’s something woven into the fabric of who we are. We understand that the freedoms we enjoy every day — running a business, raising our families, building our communities — exist because someone else stood ready to defend them.
About four years ago, our team began asking a simple question: How could we turn the work we do every day into something that gives back? We wanted our company to stand for more than inspections — we wanted our work to help support those who had already sacrificed so much.
When we began researching organizations, Semper Fi & America’s Fund stood out immediately. Their transparency, the impact they create, and the incredible percentage of funds that go directly to supporting wounded, ill, and injured service members and their families made it clear this was an organization truly living its mission.
But what truly solidified our commitment was the people behind the mission. Over the years, Vanessa from The Fund has visited our office to share stories about the service members and families whose lives are being changed through their programs. Hearing those stories firsthand reminded our team that this mission is not about numbers — it’s about people rebuilding their lives after sacrifice.
From that point forward, giving back became part of our journey as a company. Today, a portion of every inspection we complete supports Semper Fi & America’s Fund. With roughly 1,600 to 2,000 inspections each year, every home we inspect becomes an opportunity to give back and stand beside those who served.
Personally, that commitment led me to take the journey one step further. In 2025, I ran my first marathon — the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, D.C. — as a Community Athlete supporting The Fund. Alongside a friend and fellow business owner, Malcolm from Chattanooga Home Inspector, we trained together and crossed that finish line, having raised more than $2,000 for the mission. It was both of our first marathons, and the experience gave us just a glimpse of the perseverance, strength, and determination that so many service members demonstrate every day.
The heroes in this story are not us. They are the men and women who answered the call to serve, and the families who stand beside them through every challenge that follows. Organizations like Semper Fi & America’s Fund ensure that those heroes are never alone — that they receive lifelong, one-on-one support as they rebuild their lives.
