Semper Fi Fund Partners with The Inverness Golf Club to Inspire Veterans to Thrive in Recovery Through Golf May 7–9, 2019

Who: Twenty service members from the Semper Fi Fund’s Team Semper Fi take on challenges in their recoveries to learn the game of golf at the gentle, but unforgiving slopes, rolling hills and deep bunkers at The Inverness Golf Club.

“Golf is a sport that can be played by all ability levels for a lifetime. It is the ultimate challenge both mentally and physically and serves the service members well on their road to recovery by sharpening their minds and their focus, as well as tuning up their bodies. The degree of difficulty of this game requires a lot of focus, determination, and ability to adapt: all qualities of our Team Semper Fi,” says TSF Senior Manager, Ray Watkins.

WHAT: The sixth annual never before, beginner and intermediate golf clinic hosted at The Inverness Golf Club with coaching instruction from local, top golf professionals. Service members will receive 10 hours of classroom-style instruction followed by 36 holes of golf over three days. These incredible, inspiring athletes will build more than just skills at this unforgettable event — they’ll also leave with camaraderie, confidence and life-long bonds with their fellow teammates.

WHEN: May 7–9, 2019

WHERE: The Inverness Golf Club | 200 Inverness Dr. West, Englewood, CO 80112

WHY: “Recovery Through Sport” has proven to be an ideal outlet for injured service members to hone both physical agility and mental focus, skills that are critical to navigating their recovery. Learning and practicing alongside fellow wounded service members, they can also trade stories, share strategies for coping with their injuries, and forge lasting friendships.

The Semper Fi Fund provides urgently needed resources and lifetime support for combat-wounded, critically ill and catastrophically injured members of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families. Case Managers from the Fund work one-on-one with service members and veterans to understand and support their individual needs right now and throughout their lifetimes. The Fund keeps its overhead extremely low in order to have the greatest impact on the lives of service members and veterans and has been awarded the highest ratings from watchdog groups: A+ from CharityWatch (one of only two veteran nonprofits to receive this rating last year), eight consecutive 4-star ratings from Charity Navigator (an achievement attained by only 3% of rated charities) and the Platinum Seal of Transparency from GuideStar. Team Semper Fi – is the heart and inspiration of the Semper Fi Fund’s Sports Program and is an extension of the assistance we provide. The teams are made up of servicemen and women who have overcome significant challenges in their service to our country and have embraced the fighting, athletic spirit on their road to recovery. They are an inspiration to us all, but more importantly, they are an inspiration to their fellow service members who are also recovering.
