Karen Guenther

Semper Fi & America’s Fund Founder & CEO Karen Guenther has dedicated her life to serving our Nation’s wounded, ill, and injured service members, veterans, and military families. What began in 2003 at her kitchen table in base housing at Camp Pendleton — alongside a small group of military spouses — has grown into one of the nation’s leading veteran nonprofit organizations, providing more than $550 million in grants, programs, and services to over 40,000 service members, veterans, and military families across all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces.

Karen’s vision for The Fund was inspired during her time as a registered nurse at Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton, where she witnessed firsthand the profound physical, emotional, and financial challenges facing service members and their families. Determined that no one would face recovery alone, she built an organization grounded in personalized, lifelong support and compassionate care.

Raised on a farm in California’s Central Valley, Karen credits her upbringing, years as an ICU nurse, and decades of volunteer service with shaping her leadership philosophy and unwavering commitment to others. Under her leadership, The Fund has become nationally recognized for its innovative, person-centered approach to supporting veterans and military families through every stage of recovery, transition, and beyond.

Beyond her work, Karen enjoys spending time with family and friends, oil painting, playing the piano, horseback riding, and exploring nature on long hikes with her dogs.
