Semper Fi & America’s Fund is honored to be a Bob Woodruff Foundation 2021 Spring Grant recipient, receiving support for our Service Member and Family Support Program, which addresses urgent needs related to COVID-19. This program is made possible in part by a grant from the Bob Woodruff Foundation, which is dedicated to ensuring that impacted veterans, service members, their families, and their caregivers thrive long after they return home. While our nation’s veterans and their families are facing many of the same challenges as other Americansduring the pandemic, their difficulties are often exacerbated by issues related to their military service. According to a study by the Institute for Veterans and Military Families at Syracuse University, “Top Resource Needs of Veterans and Active Duty Service Members,” as many as 40% of veterans and military families have experienced food insecurity since the COVID-19 pandemic began. Food insecurity threatens the mental and physical health of our veterans, especially those with pre-existing conditions, such as physical disabilities, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), traumatic brain injury (TBI), and life-threatening illnesses. Funding received from the Bob Woodruff Foundation will support our emergency financial relief efforts, providing food and shelter assistance and ensuring the basic needs of our military families are met.
