SANDBAG SUNDAY 2020

April 26, 2020

This year marks the 5th Annual Enter Sandbag Challenge. In the first four, the event has raised ~100k for the Semper Fi Fund, which provides for injured veterans from ALL branches of the US Military.

While set with the biggest field yet, at over 20 teams, this year’s event will be held in a different capacity. Due to current environment surround the COVID-19 outbreak, instead of hosting the event in one location, we are instead designating April 26, 2020: SANDBAG SUNDAY. Instead of running the event with partners, we will have an individual event. And instead of carrying a sandbag, we have modified the event to be gearless, although competitors are encouraged to wear a backpack with some weight to increase the challenge. (Modified version at bottom)

The Sandbag Challenge is meant to serve as a reminder of the hard work and sacrifice our military regularly endures. The added weight is a nod to the weight, both figurative and literal, that those in the Armed Forces continuously bear on our behalf. And the team aspect is representative of relying on those next to us to accomplish greater things together, and those who deploy and sacrifice on our behalf.

While we did have 20 teams registered for the event, we would encourage everyone and anyone who is able to compete on SANDBAG SUNDAY.

100% of the money raised by this event will go towards the Semper Fi Fund, benefiting wounded veterans from ALL branches of the military. The process is fast, easy, and secure and we truly appreciate any support you can provide. If you can’t make a donation at this point, help us reach our goal by sending an e-mail to friends you think might be interested in contributing and include a link to this page.

Your generosity is greatly appreciated.

Original Sandbag Challenge Workout

The challenge will be performed in teams of 2. Each team will have one 35lb sandbag that cannot be put down for the duration of the event. Teammates can divide the work however they want, but only one member can be working at a time. The teams must complete the runs together, and their time will not stop until both teammates cross the finish line. With the exception of the burpees, the individual performing the exercise will be the one holding the sandbag. If the sandbag touches the ground at any time, each teammate must stop and complete 20 burpees.
