Home Accessibility for a Paralyzed Marine — In Partnership with The Home Depot Foundation

HEro Stories

With the support of The Home Depot Foundation, Marine Lance Corporal Joey Lowe is gaining greater independence at home.

In May 2005, Joey sustained complete paralysis from the chest down after his tank ran over a triple-stacked IED. For nearly 21 years, he has navigated daily life from a wheelchair, which has made standard sinks difficult to access and limited the use of his kitchen. Through The Home Depot Foundation’s commitment to our Nation’s heroes, an accessible sink and adaptive features have helped remove those barriers, making it easier for him to reach essential spaces, prepare meals, and stay active at home.

This is the impact of partnership: meeting real needs, removing everyday obstacles, and helping restore independence for those who have served.

To all those who donate to make things like this happen, I just can’t thank you enough. God bless you.
